Aquaculture: what is the prognosis for the next 30 years?
A round table devoted to the development of aquaculture to the year 2050, held on September 14 in the framework of the II International fishery forum and exhibition of the fishing industry in Saint-Petersburg. On the actual subject speak more than a dozen experts from different countries.
Currently, more than 45% of human consumption of fish and seafood are the products of aquaculture. Despite the huge scale achieved by the industry, remain important issues of quality and safety of farmed aquatic animals.
What quantity of aquaculture production can be obtained without loss of quality and would not the uncontrolled growth of this industry to environmental disaster and the loss of certain species of wild fish – these and other topics will be discussed by the participants of the round table “Aquaculture: projections of cultivation and development until 2050”, which will be held on 14 September in hall 4 ICC Expoforum (pavilion G). The event was organized by the Federal Agency for fisheries, VNIRO and the company F-Consulting.
On a discussion platform is planned to publicize the foreign experience in the field of aquaculture. Reports on the issues of the modern world market trends and new technologies in the industry will include representatives of Denmark, the Faroe Islands, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and other countries.
Domestic experts, representatives of authorities, industry associations, commercial and academic organizations intend to talk about the opportunities and risks of aquaculture development in Russia, including taking into account regional specificities.
As commented on the upcoming event Fishnews Deputy head of the Federal Agency for fishery Vasily Sokolov, this year in the framework of St Petersburg international economic forum a round table on aquaculture promises to be the most representative of the number of participating countries.
“Aquaculture is an interesting subject. In Russia, unfortunately, this industry is not as developed, but in St. Petersburg this year will come many foreign visitors, and they have something to share with other forum members. Moreover, there is a wide range of topics, problems related to aquaculture that are common to all countries, – said the representative of the Agency. – Ecology and veterinary safety, efficiency of feeding, fish disease, etc.”
The Russian participants, according to Vasily Sokolov, also intend to announce their plans for the development of the industry: it will assess how the regulator and business, science. But the focus at the roundtable will be given to the reports of foreign visitors: “taking into account global issues, which is expected to raise long – term trends and projections in aquaculture, – of course, it is interesting to hear the positions of different countries, including those that today are leaders in the industry. So, of course, we expect great interest in the upcoming event”, – said the Deputy head of the Agency.
The round table will be organized on the sidelines of the II International fishery forum and exhibition of the fishing industry, seafood and technologies, which will be held in St. Petersburg on 13-15 September.
