Not all offers the fishing community is reflected in the restrictions on the use of fixed networks in the Kamchatka region, however, the beginning of changes expected and it is hoped that these steps will yield the result stated in the Association of the fishing organizations West coast of Kamchatka.
Changes in fishing rules for the far Eastern basin take effect from 1 July. In the new document included limitations on fishing Pacific salmon in the Kamchatka region fixed networks.
A ban on the use of fishing gear during extraction in areas in the internal sea waters and the territorial sea established on the East coast – Petropavlovsk-Komandorskaya subzone (with the exception of the waters of the Avacha Bay, Kronotsky and Avachinsky bays), Karaginskoe subzone, the Western Bering sea area. The use of trap nets, we recall, was one of the controversial topics on the Kamchatka Peninsula. On the problematic issue was made by the fishermen, Federal and regional authorities and science. In particular, the arguments in favor of severe restrictions fixed networks has led to the Association of the fishing organizations West coast of Kamchatka.
The new rules include a ban in the Kamchatka-Kurile subarea and in the West Kamchatka subzone to the South of 54 degrees North latitude. Fishing community between those proposed to prevent the use of fixed networks to 56 degrees, so as soon as the above does not work to fish with nets due to strong currents, said changes the President of the Association Alex Ramanauskas.
“Nevertheless, I think, always need somewhere to start. The upcoming Putin is considered to be fruitful, I believe, of the net fishery will not be effective production with fixed Gill nets and will not affect the situation. But in anticipation of future years I would like to experience with the ban has brought about a positive result. And at least in the Kamchatka-Kurile subzone has managed to preserve valuable fish species”, – said the interlocutor Fishnews.
The head of the Association noted that the uncontrolled Gill-net fishery has primarily on stocks of coho salmon, chum salmon, sockeye salmon. “Industry and science analyzed the catches of netting of craft, including assessed quality part. It turned out that withdrawn those species of salmon, of which I have spoken. My opinion – this suggests that there is a damage of catch that often leads to hiding or gear work selectively. Both is unacceptable. So expect changes,” said Alex, Ramanauskas.
