In the Kaliningrad region in the river caught a huge piranha
In the Kaliningrad region and the Neman river local fishermen caught a huge piranha. As reported by the newspaper “Neman news”, the incident occurred on August 17 near the village a Large village.
A resident of the Neman district Alexey Belenichev caught the bait fish near the confluence of the rivers of the Jura and Nemunas.
“I was fishing with a worm. When started to bite, spurts were so strong that I have as much as the rod cracked! So powerful is usually biting fish weighing 7-8 pounds, but this was not the case. The individual was of small size, look like bream, but with scales like a salmon, and struck her “human” teeth, this I in your life not remember”, — quotes the words Belenichev edition.
The journalists of the newspaper appealed to the scientists of the Kaliningrad state technical University with a request to clarify the type of fish, which sent them to the examination of photos taken by Balanchinym.
The University confirmed that the photo is really a fish of the piranha family, namely the Black PACU (Colossoma macropomum), which is found in the Amazon river basin. This kind of piranhas can reach lengths of over a meter and weight more than 25 kg. Black PACU is not a carnivore and eats various fruits and large seeds with a hard rind.
“Black PACU is widely distributed among hobbyists, but with age he’s getting too big for the aquarium, so the owners just get rid of these fish, throwing them in the water. In view of the high temperature of water in Neman PACU can live in it for a while, but autumn frosts, it will not stand. The conditions for propagation of these fish in our rivers there, so nothing to fear on account of their distribution”, — the newspaper quoted the comment of the Dean of the faculty of life and environmental Sciences KSTU Constantine Talika.
