The prices of some types of sturgeon caviar in Astrakhan region have declined significantly, said the Minister of agriculture and fisheries of the region Alexey Galkin.
According to him, today caviar can be bought for 25 thousand per kilogram, the average price is 30 thousand, though not so long ago, the delicacy was worth 40 to 50 thousand.
According to the official, this decrease is due to the fact that in the region every year, a growing number of fish farms, which are engaged in sturgeon farming, now there are more than 20.
“There is also growing and brood stock sturgeon spawners fish species, so we expect that this year we will have approximately 800 tonnes of sturgeon, caviar production will grow to about 14 tonnes compared to 10.5 tonnes a year earlier,” said Mr. Galkin.
He added that one of the large sturgeon enterprises in the region have recently received the necessary documents for export of black caviar to Europe. Deliveries are planned this year.
Recall that while black caviar produced in the Astrakhan region, is realized only in the Russian regions.
