How to save the bio-resources Onega and lake Ladoga

Problems of organization of fishery and preservation of water biological resources of the Gulf of Finland, Ladoga and Onega lakes discussed at the meeting in St. Petersburg. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of agriculture, head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Executive authorities of the Leningrad region, North-Western territorial administration of Federal Agency for fishery scientists and fishery managers.

In the region nedolov

Ilya Shestakov noted insufficient development of the fisheries. According to industry science, the stocks of aquatic bioresources in the Leningrad region are at a stable level, although the statistics of the catch suggests otherwise. For example, in the Ladoga and Onega lakes in recent years nedoshivina walleye and whitefish: their production is on average 40% of the TAC.

The Minister also paid special attention to ensuring the safety of navigation taking into account the specifics of the region: mainly fishery is small fleet.

The fisheries need help

Head North-West THAT Andrey Yakovlev said that by the end of 2017 on the Gulf of Finland, lakes Ladoga and Onega were about 1.3 thousand of Supervisory activities, including cooperation with police and border guards. During the raids revealed more than 1,1 thousand violations. However, a large controlled territory requires a greater number of forces and means to ensure the full protection of water biological resources, said the head of territorial administration.

Ilya Shestakov said that now to assist the employees of the territorial departments on the interdepartmental level, the issue of cross vesting of powers of state inspectors fisheries, forest protection and hunting departments. The head of the Agency added that to combat illegal fishing it is advisable to consider equipping small boats, working on large reservoirs, the technical means of control.

Reproduction – special attention

The head of the Agency stressed that, together with additional measures to combat poaching need to focus on programmes for the reproduction of aquatic bioresources. Including to maintain species diversity and increase populations of valuable and especially valuable species of fish. It is noted that in this respect the region has significant potential. In the Leningrad region in the system of Glavrybvod operate five hatcheries and the Federal selection-genetic centre. Enterprises produce more than 3 million rasnoavei young, thus are supported including population Volkhov whitefish and lake Ladoga (lake) salmon reported Fishnews in the press-service SZTU.

Valuable species became less

Director of GosNIORKh Denis Belyaev reported on the status of stocks. In the largest reservoirs in the region in recent decades there have been major changes in the structure of species composition and decreased the proportion of commercially valuable species. Decreased catch of ripasa, vendace, burbot, Zander. According to science, has completely lost its commercial importance paly, some forms of the Ladoga whitefish, lake salmon and trout listed in the Red book of the Russian Federation. The Volkhov whitefish are also listed in the Red book, the population is maintained solely by artificial reproduction conducted by the Volkhov fishery of North-West branch Glavryba. Valaam whitefish and black are small in number. Of commercial importance are preserved only in the Ladoga lake SIG and SIG-Ladoga.

In this regard, GosNIORKh plans to conduct a serious scientific study of populations of valuable and very valuable (including “red-listed”) species Ladoga and Onega lakes. Today the fishermen and anglers most sought-after walleye, which requires the introduction of limits and areas of its production. It is also necessary to assess the reception capacity of the basin of Ladoga lake for later release of fingerling walleye in their natural environment.

At the same time to preserve natural reproduction need to strengthen the protection of spawning grounds and to create a closed spawning areas, where any activity is prohibited, and also to increase the capacity of hatcheries in the region which will help to increase the volume of releases of juveniles. In addition, Svirsky hatchery in conjunction with GosNIORKh is proposed to create a single center to carry out the pilot research and experimental-industrial introduction of new technologies and developments. It is planned that this will increase the efficiency of artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources of lake Ladoga.

Fish waiting for the law

The meeting noted the relevance of the adoption of the Federal law “About protection of Ladoga and Onega lakes”. This issue is being discussed 2000 years. Now the bill is on consideration in the state Duma. The adoption of the document will facilitate the implementation of an integrated approach for the conservation and restoration of ecosystems of major water bodies of the Leningrad region, according to the Agency.
