The preservation of the unique lakes included in the national project

In the framework of the national project “Ecology” is planned to rehabilitate the unique lakes, including lake Baikal and Teletskoye, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. It is expected that this will help in the development of tourism.

The national project “Ecology” discussed at the meeting of the Presidium of the Council under the RF President on strategic development and projects. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the project aimed at radically improving the environmental situation in the country, said Fishnews in the press service of the Russian Government.

Improvements, according to the head of the Cabinet, are expected, particularly in the tourism sector – due to the planned works on the development of relevant infrastructure in the national parks, for the improvement of the unique lakes such as Baikal and Teletskoye lake. “We at the Government meeting on Friday, has already decided to allocate the first tranche of money to put in order a part of the coastline of this lake”, said Dmitry Medvedev.

The Minister of natural resources Dmitry Kobylkin at a briefing after the meeting confirmed that in the framework of the project until 2024 to clean up “a river of Russia, the unique lake Baikal, Teletskoye, many others.”

To prepare national projects in 12 directions, President Vladimir Putin instructed the presidential decree in may of this year. Among the goals that the President set the government on the environment, rehabilitation of water bodies, including the Volga, conservation of unique aquatic systems, including lake Teletskoye in the Altai and lake Baikal. This should be performed ecological rehabilitation of water objects. One of the objectives is to implement a project aimed at reducing three times the proportion of contaminated wastewater discharged into the Volga, on the sustainable functioning of water management complex of the Lower Volga and the preservation of ecosystems of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain.

The decree also provides for the implementation of the project for the conservation of lake Baikal, the implementation of measures to clean up debris from the shores and coastal waters of lakes Baikal, Teletskoye, lake Ladoga, lake Onega and the rivers Volga, don, Ob, Yenisei, Amur, Ural, Pechora.
