Japanese newspaper told about the revival of fishing in Russia
The fish sector of Russia is gradually recovering. Such an assessment voiced in the article of the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.
So, at the end of 2016, the volume of the catch of seafood in Russia amounted to almost 5 million tons, allowing the country to reach sixth place in the world on this indicator.
However, the fishery still has room to grow. For example, in the late 1980s, the rate in the Russian Federation amounted to almost 8 million tonnes, which corresponded to the third place in the world. The collapse of the USSR and the “dashing nineties” plunged the fishing industry is in crisis. Fishing was reduced to 3 million tons per year.
The starting point for recovery, according to Japanese Newspapers, was the adoption in 2004 of the Russian law on long-term catch quotas of fish. In the following decade, the volume of seafood production has increased by half and continues to grow steadily.
The publication also notes that about 60-70 percent of this volume provides the Russian far East.
Recall that recently the Russian government announced the reduction of prices for caviar twice due to the record catch of salmon for the season.
