Leningrad fisheries helps Volkhov whitefish to spawn
In the period from October 5 to 7, employees of a separate division of the Department of state control, supervision and fisheries in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, North-Western territorial administration of Federal Agency for fisheries conducted Supervisory activities in the waters of the Volkhov river between the mouth of the Volkhov hydroelectric power station in order to prevent illegal extraction (catch) of Volkhov whitefish, listed in the Red book of Russia, during its spawning season.
Currently, the Volkhov whitefish has lost commercial importance. The population of this species is supported by the measures on artificial reproduction experts Volkhov hatchery.
In the course of the past raids by inspectors is composed of 2 administrative report of the pond seized 14 illegal fishing gear – nets, which contained 55 kg of fish.
