More than 20 000 fingerlings of sterlet were released in the ponds of the region
21 930 young of the year sturgeon were released in the Sheksninskoe reservoir and in the river Sukhona and Vaga last week.
The first 5,000 sturgeon fingerlings released into the river Sheksna to Kirillov district. Earlier here there was a population of sturgeon, but at the turn of XIX-XX centuries it disappeared.
The release of sterlet in Sheksna is part of compensation of damage caused to aquatic bioresources of the organizations that led the construction of shore protection structures, did overhaul the security system of the North Dvina waterway and highway Vologda – Tikhvin in the territory of the Vologda region. Fry brought a fish-breeding enterprise, specializing in the cultivation of sturgeon fish species in Kaduyskogo area.
– The peculiarity of this action is that in the river Sheksna, we are producing young starlet for the first time, – said the Deputy Governor of the region Mikhail Glazkov.
Previously, the starlet lived in the Sukhona, Vahe, Sheksna, Mologa, rarely met in the Onega, the White and the kubenskoe lake. However, at the beginning of the last century, this species has lost commercial importance. Now the starlet is only sparsely found in Mologa, Vahe and sheksninskoe reservoir. The largest numbers of population within a region is preserved only in the basin of the Sukhona.
Over the years, was released more than 15 million fingerlings, larvae of various species of fish – salmon, pike, carp, whitefish, sturgeon, – said Mikhail Glazkov.
