Mount the hook in the butt: a little trick for transporting gear
Fishing about twenty years, regularly communicating with fishermen from the provinces, I noticed that many of us when you carry the rod, attach the hook to float the bait as anyone. Most often, people fix the hook by a winding of tape, someone by the handle of the coil attaches, and of classics of the genre — crossing of the ring. As they say, all of these methods are the place to be, but in practice they are more trouble than fun. For example, if hooks anchored in the tape, then they acquire a foreign flavor of the fish is feeling, well, there is a risk that they will detach, slip. The hooks slipping off of the rings of the rod from the reel. And there’s nothing worse when on arrival at the scene and uncovered the gear suddenly, the hook caught on the cover, and somewhere in the depths of the case. I think many familiar with the situation.
Ways to solve the problem here a little, and they are not new. For example, I’ve long since trained myself to carry leashes for float fishing rods separately, and the fishing just tie a leash. Time it spends at least, but not a problem. Another method is to protect the hook with a piece of foam rubber or foam plastic. And this method is working, I use it sometimes, but don’t really like it as regularly these pieces of foam and the foam is lost. As I said, I prefer leashes to carry separately, but in parallel, I made a device that allows you to securely attach the hooks, and they almost never pop up, although that happens sometimes. I took a regular small swivel to one of its rings, and tied the rope, and then tightly strapped on the butt of the rod this design, leaving the first ring of the swivel, so that it retains the ability to rotate.
Rope is needed in order to be easier and stronger to attach the swivel to the butt. The swivel I’m picking up a blue or red tape, to be visible. One or two turns of electrical tape, then pull the rope from the swivel, again duct tape, etc. In the end, the swivel is quite firmly strapped to the butt.
There is another option: fix it with the help of thread, which after treating with varnish or waterproof glue. Duct tape in this case has the advantage that in case of need, you can very quickly remove the design or move it. As a result, when the rod is assembled, the hook or hooks start to swivel, it creates tension and all. As a ring swivel is a small and created tension, the hooks rarely pop up. But that’s not all. From an old Bicycle inner tube I cut a circle with a width of about 3-5 inches, and just pulled it on the butt of the rod. Well, when the hook is inserted in the swivel, I just pull this rubber top. Very rarely hook clings to the rubber, in most cases, everything is fine. This design allows you to safely carry a fishing rod together in the same case, without fear that the hooks will be unhooked and tackle tangled. Sometimes, of course, is, but very rarely.
As, in my opinion, it is easier and more interesting than just to hang the hook anywhere.
Good luck and all the best.
