The Baikal factories in 2018 laid a record amount of eggs of Arctic Cisco for the replenishment of
Baikal branch of the fgbi “Glavrybvod” (located under the jurisdiction of the Federal Agency for fishery) to restore the stocks of Baikal omul was laid in 2018, a record amount of eggs for incubation – more than $ 500 million.
This figure is 4.5 times more than last year’s amount of laying eggs and 8 times higher than the level of 2016.
Record the laying of the eggs of Arctic Cisco in the state commercial hatcheries became possible thanks to the introduction of a ban on commercial catch of this species and enhanced fisheries. First time the fertilized eggs obtained by the method of sparing – spawned fish are released back into the river. About 40 thousand individuals of Baikal omul returned to their natural habitat.
The process of artificial reproduction of Baikal omul is in Bolsherechye and Selenga plants. They became part of Glavrybvod in 2016, after which enterprises were improved system of catching of fish producers and the laying of eggs for incubation.
Due to the extremely low numbers of spawning flocks of Baikal omul, coming in 2016 in the major spawning rivers of lake Baikal, the incubation was laid 63.6 million pieces of fertilized eggs, and in 2017 – have 121 million eggs.
Baikal omul is endemic to lake Baikal, is a valuable commercial fish. In connection with decrease in stocks from October 1, 2017, a ban on commercial fishing of Baikal omul.
To increase artificial reproduction of omul of the Selenga and bolsherechye plants will be reconstructed. According to the project documentation, after the reconstruction the production capacity of the plants will be increased and will allow to release into the lake up to 2 billion pieces larvae and 2 million pieces of juvenile Cisco, and 2 million pieces of juvenile sturgeon.
