The largest inhabitant of freshwater is catfish. This predator can grow to several meters in length and weigh about 300 lbs. But many of them do not have official confirmation of and disappear.

Under favorable environmental conditions, life expectancy catfish can reach hundreds of years. During this time, fish is gaining 200-300 kg and its body length is 4-5 meters. There is information that the largest ever caught freshwater predators, was discovered in Uzbekistan in the last century. A giant weight was 430 kg, and length – 5 meters. But this fact has not been confirmed officially.

Cases of catching trophy catfish weighing more than 100 kg, are becoming increasingly rare. This is due to reduction of fish populations inhabiting lakes and rivers. Environmental disasters, harmful emissions and contamination of waters with chemicals or industrial waste to kill the ecosystem, endangering the existence of freshwater giants. If you do not take the necessary measures to protect bodies of water in the near future many species may be exterminated from the face of the Earth.
